Since I only just started blogging,  I will begin by telling you a little bit about myself and my experience with ballet. My name is Sophie Helene Aker, I am 16 years old and am born and raised in southern Norway. I go to an international, English speaking school where I am studying the IB program.

Since the age of 5 I have been attending ballet classes at my local dance school, where I have participated in RAD examination from Primary until grade 7, my last exam being Intermediate, which I completed in 2011. I have been on two ballet courses in London, one with the Royal Academy of Dance in summer 2009, and the second with the English National Ballet in Winter 2010. I have had a few major roles, my biggest being little Clara in the Nutcracker, 2008.

Throughout my years as a dancer, I have attended different classes and types of dance, including show jazz, contemporary, funk and modern. However, ballet has been my top priority and is something that I have stuck with. I finished dancing last spring because of the pressure of my school and the lack of hours I managed to fit in practice, but I have not lost my passion for dance and that is why I am have made this blog. I want to assist dancers my own age by contributing my knowledge about ballet to an international community.Image

  1. Hi Sophie! I did the IB program in the States!!! How’s it going for you? I know it can be tough. I definitely never slept but it really is an awesome program! It would be cool if ballet could be part of IB though. I really wish I would have danced more in high school but now I’m trying to make up for it. I LOVE your blog! Can’t wait to read more!

    • Hello! It’s going well, although it’s very tough and super demanding! I actually didn’t sleep the day before this project was due! I also wish the IB included ballet, it would make it so much easier to keep up with it (as I have slipped a bit over the past year), and I hope to begin again, but you know, school is very time consuming. Right now I think it might be a while before I can start blogging a bit more again, but I hope I can post some new stuff when I’m not bombarded with work 🙂 Thank you so much for commenting, I’m glad you found my blog! 🙂 🙂
